About Backgammon Lounge
A free backgammon game with a strong computer opponent, plus guides that teach the game from the first roll to the doubling cube.
Who we are
Backgammon Lounge is made by Silver Power, LLC, a small independent studio. We built it because we wanted a backgammon game that is quick to start, plays well, and helps you get better: no download, no account needed, and a computer opponent you can learn from.
The game
You can play in your browser on desktop or mobile, or in the iPhone app. Play the computer at three levels, a single game or a match with the doubling cube; solve challenge positions and the daily challenge; pass and play on one device; or play people online, either a friend with an invite code or a random opponent from matchmaking, with an Elo rating. Online games run on our own server, which rolls the dice for both players and checks every move against the rules.
More on playing the computer and playing online.
The computer opponent
The rules engine and the computer player are our own code, written from scratch. The same engine runs in the browser (compiled to WebAssembly), in the iPhone app and on the server, so the rules are identical everywhere.
The Hard level combines an opening book with a two-ply search guided by a neural network that we trained by self-play. Easy and Medium are deliberately weaker so that beginners can win games and see the ideas from the guides work at the board.
How the guides are written
Every guide is written for this site. The board diagrams are generated from real positions, and every move drawn on a diagram is checked against the position when the site is built, so a diagram cannot show an illegal move. Odds and probability tables are computed, not copied.
We correct mistakes when readers point them out and revise pages as we add material. If you find something wrong or unclear, please tell us.

Questions
Who makes Backgammon Lounge?
Backgammon Lounge is built and run by Silver Power, LLC, a small independent studio. The same people write the game, the computer opponent, the server and the guides on this site.
Is Backgammon Lounge free?
Yes. The game and every guide are free. The website is supported by ads; the iPhone app offers an optional purchase to remove them.
How do you check that the guides are correct?
Rules follow the standard rules used by tournament organisations. Move and cube advice is checked against our own engine and against the plays strong players and modern bots agree on; where experts disagree, the page says so and shows the alternatives.
